Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland

With a cast containing of Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway Helena Bonham Carter and Mia Wasikowska for Tim Burton's 2010 rendition of Alice in Wonderland, how can this movie not be a hit? Coming out March 5, 2010, moviegoers get the chance to step into an imaginary 3D Wonderland.

I can only imagine the experience. LSD maybe? As rumors have suggested about Lewis Carroll's classic children's story.

Regardless of whether they were drug references or just inside jokes with her friends, Alice and Wonderland will forever be one of my favorite stories. Hopefully, the movie will live up to my expectations. 6 months and counting, you better believe I'll be at the midnight showing!

Updates for Maureen

This post is for you Ms. Higgins.

What have I been doing with my life lately... hmm... GOOD QUESTION! Well, in the matter of a month, I went from working 0 days to 7. Although this may sound overwhelming, it's in a way calming for me. I enjoy staying busy and having my schedule packed to the max, so the overload is definitely nice.

I spend 3 days a week at State PR doing Public Relations as an intern in Manhattan. I like it, but because I've been out of school for awhile, my creative writing and brain activity has really slowed down. Ha. But, I am getting back in the groove of things, and hopefully my pitching will be up to par again.

The rest of the week I am working at a restaurant in Gladstone, NJ, called SUBLIME, and let me tell you, the food really is SUBLIME. The restaurant just opened about a month ago, so business is well, wishy washy. Some nights the bar is busy, but the dining area is not and vice versa. I like it though. I love the girls I work with as well as the rest of the staff. Boss man could be a little uptight every once in awhile, but hey, it's a restaurant, aren't they all like that??

Some other exciting news! I am interviewing to volunteer at DC Fashion Week coming up in September!!!! I am so stoked about that. I'll also be able to do a few things with NY Fashion Week. I'm hoping all this unpaid work I am doing is going to help me find a job in the end.

I do enjoy working and being in the city, but I miss Virginia like crazy, and I've made a decision that after I am all NYC'ed out, I am most likely going to move back to the DC area or Boston.

We'll see where things take me. Hopefully sooner than later. Gotta keep those fingers crossed eh?!

NYC Restaurant Week!

Ahh.. the joys of working in NYC! This week is restaurant week and my bestie Jacque and I are hitting the city for some dinner tonight. Not exactly sure where we are going, or what kind of food we want to eat, but I am sure that no matter what, it'll be AMAZING! I'll upload some pictures and brag later about how good our the food was! :)

XoXo

Eat. Pray. Love.... another passage

Unfortunately I have yet to finish this amazing book because all of a sudden I am busy?? Weird to say that again, but I love it. As stated in a previous post, I have let go someone in my life that has truely touched my heart. Well, not completely let go... but trying. I guess? Anyway the more I read the words of Liz Gilbert the more I am convinced she is talking to me...through her experiences of course. Here is another part of her book that I can relate to.

'But I really did love him.'
'Big deal. So you fell in love with someone. Dont you see what happened? This guy touched a place in your heart deeper than you thought he would. I mean you got zapped kiddo. But that love you felt was just the beginning. You just got a taste of love. Thats just limited little rinky-dinky mortal love. Wait till you see how much more deeply you can love than that. Heck, you have the capacity to someday love the whole world.'

The words explain themselves....

Top George Mason University Salaries.

So we've got...

Jim Larranaga. As he goes into his 12th season of coaching for Mason's Men's Basketball team, Larranaga has led these men to the 05-06 NCAA Final Four which awarded him with numerous coaching awards, the first round of the NCAA tourny in the 07-08 season and the first round of the NIT tourny in 08-09. No wonder why his salary is more than the President of the University, Alan Merten.

Wait... is that right? The head coach of George Mason University makes more money than the University President? Better believe in ladies and gentlemen. According to the Connect2Mason website, in June of 2009 an article was released showing the top salaries for each George Mason employee. Here is how the list went:

1. Jim Larranaga: $525,000 Head Men's Basketball Coach

2. Alan Merten: $404,000 University President

3. Peter Stearns: $340,000 Provost

4. Lloyd Griffiths: $328,296 Dean of the School of Information Technology

5 Maurice Scherrens: $273,000 Senior Vice President

this just proves, Jim Larranaga, YOU ARE THE MAN!

Fingerprint Art

So I started my new internship today in Manhattan at a PR firm called State PR. Right away I was put to work. The project that I was assigned is called The Baby Show, and it's a tradeshow that is everything baby. I love it, because if anyone knows anything about me, they know that I am OBSESSED with children. My task today was to research popular mommy/baby blogs that would be able to promote the show, which is in October. After a day of researching, this has got to be the coolest thing I came across. The company is called DNA 11 , and what they do is, "pioneer the application of genetic science in the creation of truly personalized unique custom art."

This is one of their pieces...

HOW COOL IS THAT!!!! They do everything from DNA strands, to fingerprints...even LIPS! This is my calling, if I have been told that I have lips like Angelina Jolie, I think I need to get me one of these masterpieces! Ahh, I am loving my internship already!! :)

HOPE

Don't shut love out of your life by saying it impossible to find.
The quickest way to receive love is to give love;
The fastest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly;
And the best way to keep love is to give it wings.

A quote from the poem A Creed to Live By that I mentioned in an earlier post.

Well, I took this advice and went with it. I let go of a person I really, truly, unconditionally cared about. There is no doubt in my mind that this person and I won't be able to make it through this, but time apart may be the best twist to our ro-com story. If love conquers all, maybe down the line we'll continue where we left off, but for now, it's time to focus on MYSELF for once.

I start working in Manhattan on Wednesday... as an unpaid intern, but hey, it's experience right?!?, I am staying with my best friend and I am looking for a better job. Things can only get better from here. This is a new chapter in my life, and if it's without him, I can only hope that he returns later down the line. Faith brought us back together after 3 years, what's another 3?

Only time will tell....
